Thanks all for the great information. Seller says he doesn’t believe
there’s a knock associated with the vibration. Am trying to
confirm a time to go look at it.

Said outboard is now in my garage, for better or worse.
Seller say’s he got it from another guy on trade for something,
it had a vibration, the guy took it to a mechanic, and
he said that it might be a bad bushing or something,
and alluded that "like maybe on a rod or something".
Previously said that he didn’t "think" it knocked, but
I’m guessing that he never had it running. He threw a
gas tank in on the deal, albeit it a single line tank,
that’s not going to work to good on this motor. 😮
Anyway, What Frank said about the wrist pins is
probably the problem. Not going to tear into it
until the Elto Speedster is further along, but will check
the basics, spark, compression, and maybe try to start it up.
All in all, for $40, it doesn’t look too bad.
I’m guessing the kill switch button is an add on.
Anything else look funky for 1959?
          Thanks.

Nice find Buc! Even if the powerhead has issues, you still did well for 40 bucks with a tank (even if it’s single line). The kill button is factory, just missing the rubber cover. I don’t see anything else besides the red paint on the shift lever yet. Good on you for keeping your projects in order. I’m not always as good at that as I should be. Here is my latest Jubilee Sportwin. It’s missing the rubber cover too. My other two have the covers

Good looking motor for $40 even if you have to replace rods/pistons. Cosmetically looks to be in good shape. Wish I could find something like this in my area.

Ben, I’ll have to watch the video of your’s running for inspiration!
I see the kill switch cover is available at M.E. for $6, part #203660

Is there a way to tell if the wrist pins are loose without tearing the engine down?
                Thanks.
Edit, just answered my own question via this YouTube video…..

That’s easy. Remove the spark plugs and stick a screwdriver in one of the holes. Maintain contact with the piston as you slowly rotate the flywheel by hand (don’t push on the screwdriver). Rotate till the piston is about half way down on its downstroke. then stop turning. Now give a push on the screwdriver. Any clunk or movement represents the amount of looseness in the wrist pin.

                  Repeat with other plston.

I think you’ll be happy with that motor when you try it out. Wrist pin wear happens but not to every motor so all you can do is fuel her up and see what happens.

If you guys ever come out to the coast, bring your motors along and I’ll race ya!

Yup, you found a video of checking for wristpin wear. I have a video of each of the three of mine running on the lake. The rough looking one was my cabin motor last year and it proved itself nicely. I hope these are inspiring!
