I just picked up this omc motor today. The serial number is 407208 3. The starter pulley says "outboard motors corp. It is an opposed twin that does not have a magneto. Instead, it has a setup like a Ruddertwin where you need a battery for spark.

      Any ideas?

With that battery ignition I believe
your motor is a Model 401 Lightweight.
The punch doesn’t look like it was square on tag when stamped.

When looking at it closer it does appear to be a 1 instead of a 7 but it is hard to tell . What is the difference in year?

and that has a flywheel magneto and has NOT a coil for battery ignition !

It has an angle like a seven but on the bottom you can see what looks like the partial base of a one. baffling. is there another feature on this motor that could tell me what it is?

Please, can you post a picture of the lower unit
and also of the backside of the power head with the muffler
then I can see if there is a difference between the flywheel magneto or the coil for battery ignition model
                      thanks
