you punch in a small 1/8 hole with a drill but you just punch in DO NOT GO FURTHER then you take a small nail or pick and pry it out…. very easy job
when done…. install the new plug what I do is take a squarehead (Robertson ) screwdriver #2 and punch the center (dome) of the plug with a light tap enough to mark it
then I apply clear fingernail polish to seal the joint
see utube on doing a carb on a 9.5 at 5:22 min. same principle

Got it back together .. Cleaned the tank and screen .. Really gunked up …
Used some 16-1 ratio fuel I had on hand . I assume 24-1 is correct for this motor ..
Only ran it a minute . I want to check/replace water pump/impeller .. Any tips on dropping the lower unit other than taking the bolts out and dropping ?November 21, 2020 at 7:26 pm #221339
I also need to find a slow speed needle valve stem and knob .. The old one is broken off on the end ..And a new fuel shutoff valve ..November 22, 2020 at 6:55 pm #221384
Ordering stuff for lower unit .
Item 23 is not present on my motor . I assume that seals the connection to the water tube and I should order it.
Also trying to get the upper screw out of the lower gear casing . Is it ok to use heat there to try and break loose ? The end of the exhaust is broken . Will this hurt anything to run it like that ?November 22, 2020 at 7:05 pm #221385
I have some parts if needed.

Thanks Dave . I guess it’s just the lower unit casing . I don’t have the piece that is broken off to try and repair .
Still struggling to get that upper screw out of the gear case . Would it be ok to put some heat on it ? Are there any rubber parts inside that might melt If I did ?

When I took the drain plugs out of LU a little water came out .
Which seals would be the usual suspects for water leaks . A visual inspection looks like
2 seals . The small one where the shaft exits the hub and a large one that fits in the hub .
They both look pretty good shape from what I can tell ..November 24, 2020 at 3:40 pm #221514
