I have had the Exhaust Covers off quite a few late 40’s & 50’s motors OMC & Mercs. Sometimes the Piston Skirts look real nice and sometimes not to nice and others that are galled severely yet still turn over but would not continue to restore without a rebore and O.S. pistons. Due to the age of the motors I will stay with 16:1 no needle bearings & 24:1 with needle brgs. to protect the investments. I don’t care what the engineers say. Just my thoughts.

Different motor but same problem. My Sears motors asking for 32:1 and only my other one is saying 24:1. Would it cause any problems to run 40:1 or 50:1?

If your motor specs call for 24:1 or 32:1 then you should definitely NOT run 40:1 or 50:1 mixes.
