I usually test at 10 psi. If it holds 10 move down to around 6 and see if it still holds. In my experince so far with OMC split gearcases, if they hold 10, they’ll hold 6. The shift rod O-ring is usually the first thing to start leaking on these. Sometimes that is the only thing that is leaking if there is a leak. Other gearcases may not behave this way, but most of the ones I work on are the split 2-piece OMC.

Ben, not sure I’m following the logic. If a gear case holds pressure
at 10 psi, why wouldn’t it hold at 6 psi?
        Thanks.

Depends on seal orientation. More pressure can actually help a leaky seal hold.

Okay, now I have my brain back on track, lol.
            Makes perfect sense now.
            Thanks.

Looking great so far! If you run into anything that is broken and don’t have the parts shoot me a message, I have a bunch of misc parts laying around from when I rebuilt mine. I just need to paint mine and it is good to go. Runs great though!
