I filled the tank up with water today, and was amazed that I could not
find one leak, so I mixed up some phosphoric acid and treated
the inside and outside to prevent any flash rusting, and hopefully
      make the paint bond.

Not sure what color to paint the tank, but seem to remember they
we a couple of different colors. Will have to see what I may have
      around, and go for it.

The solder is leveled out pretty good now. I have a few “low” spots
I may try to fill in before the paint job.

Nice work Buck! Should try and find out what kind of primer is used on cars with lead filled seams.

Back when they were leading body panels, wasn’t most of the paint lacquer based?
Not sure if they treated the seams with anything before painting.

I’m hoping my cleaning with lacquer thinner then phosphoric acid treatment will surfice.
Remembered a while ago that I might has some Ford Dark Gray tractor paint that might
look okay. It’s in a quart can……. not sure I can spray it with a gun or have
            to brush it on.

Great job Buc! If you use Ford tractor paint, put it on with a roller. Looks as good as sprayed paint. It hold up good too.

Thanks for the thumbs ups and tips along the way.
Special thanks to Joe B. who gave me “hope” and technical
                      advice along the way!

I’d be in no hurry to make another one, but it was kind of fun
anyway. It would be even more fun with the proper tools
                      for sheet metal work!
